Parking in Downtown Fruita

There is parking available in and around downtown Fruita. We recommend larger vehicles (trucks, campers, vans) park in the Fruita Civic Center parking lot. Parking is free in downtown Fruita, however, we ask users to limit their parking to 2 hours.

Safe Routes to School

In 2016, the Mesa County Regional Transportation Planning Office (RTPO) received a Safe Routes to School grant to introduce the 16 elementary schools and eight middle schools in District 51 to the program. A previous grant was awarded to Grand Valley Bikes, a local non-profit, for their work from 2013-2015. The RTPO was again awarded a Safe Routes to School grant in 2021 to expand upon previous efforts and make the program interactive and more accessible to parents and students.

Biking/Walking Wayfinding Routes

The City of Fruita has created four wayfinding routes to help guide pedestrians and bicyclists. There are maps and pavement markings installed throughout the city. These routes were created with safety in mind routing users to less trafficked streets, streets with wide shoulders or sidewalks.

Transportation Planning

The Engineering Division is responsible for the evaluation of new city streets and the effect of new development on existing transportation infrastructure, as well as long-range planning of future infrastructure. The City Engineer works with external entities such as the Colorado Department of Transportation, Mesa County, and the Grand Valley Regional Transportation Planning Office to coordinate the design and installation of traffic infrastructure. The Engineering Division also assists with the preparation and distribution of grant applications, capital project design & bid services, and transportation infrastructure construction inspection.

It has a transportation system that balances access and mobility through multimodal improvements on existing roads as well as coordinated planning with new development. Transportation facilities contribute to the character of the community by providing inviting streetscapes, off-street connections, and attractive gateways to the community."
